Mentor Teachers
General Responsibilities for Fall 2009:
EDUC 3 and EDUC 4 Program Handbook (Fall 2009 - to be released)
This handbook is a required all EDUC 3 and EDUC 4 Mentor Teachers. A hard copy will be provided to SMI Mentor Teachers.
- Remain in the classroom throughout the period SMI Mentee(s) is present
- Coordinate with SMI Mentee(s) to establish a schedule for classroom observation for 3 hour per week (If necessary and possible, allow SMI Mentees to make-up missed observation hours.)
- Establish and maintain regular weekly communication with assigned SMI Mentee(s)
- Under Mentor Teacher's direction, and appropriate, please allow SMI Mentee(s) to interact with classroom students and engage in lessons and activities
EDUC 4 Mentor Teachers must agree to allow mentee(s) to co-construct and implement at least one lesson during the academic quarter
- Submit regular verification form of Menteeās participation to Allison Clark
- Formal Assessment: Toward the end of the quarter, a short survey will be sent through SMI Portal to complete
- Facilitate SMI Mentee's presence at relevant on-campus functions (i.e. faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, curriculum meetings, etc.)

If you are interested in becoming an SMI Mentor Teacher, please complete and return the Mentor Teacher Interest Form to the SMI Resource Center, located at 1104 Pierce Hall.
UCR Extension offers a Science & Mathematics Mentor Teacher/Coach Certificate. This program enables middle school and high school science and mathematics teachers to develop effective skills to serve as mentors or coaches to other teachers and/or pre-service students.
