    SMI Executive Committee
    One representative from each campus, the campus leads (faculty member and dean of science or education), a representative from the Academic Council of the Academic Senate Assembly, and the SMI Director.

    The Executive Committee is responsible for reviewing and advising on the academic content of the program as well as setting policy. The Committee meets quarterly, with special sessions convened by the chair as needed.

    Executive Committee members are informed and briefed on the status of the SMI program on their respective campuses and made aware of questions or concerns that affect the success of the campus program. The Executive Committee is also provided with detailed data and quarterly reports from the system-wide Management Team.

    SMI Campus Directors
    Each campus has a Director to provide leadership to the SMI programs. The SMI Campus Director is typically a faculty member and member of the Academic Senate. The position may be shared by co-Directors, one in the sciences and mathematics and one in education. SMI Campus Directors make decisions about their campus programs, staffing, etc. Through on-going communications with the campus SMI Executive Committee member, the SMI Campus directors inform the SMI Executive Committee. SMI Campus Directors work closely with the SMI Campus Coordinators.

    MANAGEMENT


    SMI Management Team This team is responsible for day-to-day management, coordination, oversight, and reporting for the system-wide SMI effort. The team works closely with SMI campus directors and SMI coordinators as well as other IHE segments and programs such as the Community Colleges, Subject Matter Projects, COSMOS, etc. The team is also responsible for on-going communications and reports to the Executive Committee and stakeholders, to include the Legislative Analyst Office, the Governor’s Office, and system- wide divisions at UCOP. The Management Team coordinates and manages central functions that include data collection, accountability, system-wide research and the garnering of resources.

    SMI Campus Coordinators
    Each campus has an SMI Coordinator who is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of their campus program, and also serves as the SMI student advisor. These coordinators are the primary links to the SMI students.

    PARTICIPANTS


    SMI Students
    A student participant is operationally defined as any student enrolled in an SMI course or participating in an SMI activity such as an internship or field experience.

    SMI Faculty and Instructors
    These are the instructors of the various SMI courses and components. They include senate and non-senate UC faculty as well as master teachers and graduate students.
    SMI Mentor Teachers
    A core and essential component of the SMI program is the early and ongoing field experiences for students. These experiences require placing students with teachers in their classrooms. The current term used in SMI for these teachers is mentor teacher, although many campus programs call them cooperating teachers or partner teachers.
