SALSA-SMI Summer Teaching Institute
The Summer Institute will be led by Dr. Jim Burnette and Dr. Katie Burnette who are experienced in developing curriculum for teaching laboratories aligned with Next Generation Standards. Participants will develop simple, original, innovative classroom materials ready for immediate implementation. This unique professional development opportunity is designed for STEM teachers seeking to engaging laboratory experiences with science and mathematics lesson planning. Alignment with AP Biology curriculum will also be discussed. Both instructors are experienced AP Biology exam readers. The Institute also provides the opportunity for experienced teachers to inspire the next generation of STEM teachers.
Dates: June 24-28, 2019
Stipends for participants: $250 for pre-service teachers; $500 for credentialed teachers

SUMMER INSTITUTE GALLERIES
Environmental Science Education: Air Quality & Climate Workshop
This summer institute workshop is funded by the National Science Foundation and co-sponsored by UCR CalTeach-SM. It is led by D. Roya Bahreini, Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science, with the aim of integrating knowledge from chemistry, physics, and mathematical sciences in problem solving and interpretation of issues in air quality and climate. Participants who complete the workshop will be provided with materials necessary for transferring their knowledge into their classrooms.
